A day or two before your photo session, I will send you a reminder email that will include a map to the chosen location and answer any last minute questions you may have. On the day of the shoot, my husband and I arrive about 20 minutes early to set up and get everything ready so when you and your family arrive we are ready to go! We have found it best for families with little ones to let them explore the area first and get comfortable with the environment as well as me snapping pictures of them. This helps take the pressure off. After the kids are relaxed we then suggest a few poses, some will be relaxed and just plain goofy, and some will be more posed but still capturing your true selves. My husband is a huge help to me and one of his best qualities is making people laugh. Whether you are 9 months or 90 years old, he can put a smile on your face. My goal is for everyone to have a great experience and take the stress away that is sometimes associated with family pictures!
Some helpful tips to keep in mind before the shoot – get a good nights sleep (or nap), make sure you have had enough to eat that day, drink plenty of fluids – especially during the HOT summer months, love the outfits that you will be wearing, and come prepared to have FUN!
When you book your session, locations is one of the first things we will talk about. If you already have a place in mind, I’d love to hear about it. I have some favorite go-to spots but I’m always willing to try a new place. The question to ask yourself is what type of look are you going for – urban with brick walls and buildings, or a more natural setting in a park or field. Sometimes your own backyard is the perfect spot.
Such an exciting time for parents to be! This is a great time to capture this special time in your life. The best time to take maternity sessions are about a month to 6 weeks before your due date. This way your belly is nice, full and beautiful!
Newborn sessions will take place in your own home. I will bring my portable studio and use the natural light from a window. I allow 2 hours for the session to make sure your baby is comfortable. We typically will take multiple breaks for feedings, diaper changes or whatever is needed. It is best to feed and change your baby before your session. To help relieve any stress that may come with a newborn shoot, I have a few special items that are only used for newborns – a large bean bag specifically designed for newborn posing, a heater to keep them warm at all times, and an ambient noise machine to comfort them. I have several different blankets, baskets, and beanies to choose from, but feel free to include your own as well.
Children and Babies
What you wear is a very important part of your photo shoot. A good tip is to not be too “matchy – matchy”. For example, if mom is wearing a bright yellow shirt, Dad should not wear a bright yellow shirt. What you can do is take that color, in this case yellow, and accessorize the rest of the family with that color as well as more complementary colors. I’m always updating my Pinterest board with outfit ideas – check it out here.
After your Session
After your session you will be excited to see all of the beautiful photos we took. With your permission, I will post a sneak peek or two to my Facebook page, usually that same day. Then, within one week you will receive an email from me with a link to your web gallery. A web gallery typically contains approximately 20 edited photos in a slideshow that you will be able to share with your family and friends (via email) as well as choose what prints you would like to purchase.
Sometimes choosing prints can be quite difficult. I am happy to consult with you on your selection and for an additional $50 I offer a creative consultation. I come into your home, and take a picture of where you would like to place your prints. Then, using an app on my iPad I take your web gallery and you can actually see what your prints will look like before purchasing them!
After you place your print order allow for up to 2 weeks delivery, depending on the products you order.
